Taco Seasoning - 2016
Recipe courtesy of Joan Wozny
INGREDIENTS
PREPARATION
Mix all ingredients and store in airtight container. Before using, just give it a shake!
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of mixture plus 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water to one pound of cooked meat (of your choice). Simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently until there is very little liquid left in the pan.
Note: Add a tablespoon of all-purpose flour to the pound of cooked meat to thicken up the mixture a bit.
Want to make a large batch?
Use these measurements for 1 1/2 cups of seasoning you can keep on hand!
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons chili powder
2.5 teaspoons garlic powder
2.5 teaspoons onion powder
2.5 teaspoons red pepper flakes
2.5 teaspoons oregano
5 teaspoons paprika
¼ cup plus 1 tablespoon cumin
1 1/2 tablespoons salt (more to taste)
3 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon finely ground pepper
From Joan:
Since we've been trying to eat cleaner and smarter, I've been reading a lot of labels and looking for clean recipes. Found this homemade seasoning awhile ago and it received "Thumbs Up" from the family! Out of curiosity, I checked the label of one in the store today....ya gotta love the first ingredient....I also love the vague "spice" ingredient.
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
