Beverages

Perfect Old Fashioned - 2022
Recipe courtesy of Ron Wozny

Picture
INGREDIENTS
  • 3 ounces (2 shots) bourbon or rye whiskey (I prefer Maker's Mark Whisky)
  • 1 sugar cube ( or 1 teaspoon
  • 4 dashes Bitters (see Notes below)
  • Orange peel
  • Cocktail cherries and syrup (Traverse City Premium  Cocktail Cherries preferred, or Luxardo)
  • Ice (sphere or large cube preferred)

PREPARATION

In a cocktail mixing glass, add 1 sugar cube, 1/4 ounce water, orange peel and 4 dashes of bitters. Muddle together until sugar is dissolved. Add several ice cubes and whiskey. I also usually add a little cherry syrup. Stir with a cocktail spoon until well chilled.  Strain into old fashioned glass with large ice cube. Garnish with a cherry or two and the orange peel. Perfect!

Notes:
  • For bitters, Angostura are always suitable, or your favorite flavors. We like the Fee Brothers cherry, orange or cranberry. Peychaud's is also a great choice. I usually do a combination of bitters. My go to is 2 dashes of Angostura and 2 dashes of Fee Brother cherry.
  • I highly recommend the Traverse City Premium Cocktail Cherries. I'll usually add a little of the cherry syrup as well.
  • Using a large cube or sphere of ice helps to slow melting.
